The upward trend that has seen a constant increase in the cost of natural gas and energy since last February, it has undergone a further and rapid increase in the last weeks, reaching levels that until a few months ago seemed unthinkable and that they are unsustainable.
“As in the rest of Europe – says Franco Graziosi, CEO ofCartiere di Trevi – paper industry was recovering to return to pre-pandemic, but today we are facing a new crisis based on the “energy shock” and the lack of materials and services, with the natural consequence of having tomanage skyrocketing production costs. For this, Cartiere di Trevi is forced to apply an energy extra cost of € 100 per ton on the prices of all products starting November 1st.
This supplement will remain in place until gas and energy price levels drop at reasonable levels. The energy needs of our company are covered by our plants in self-production. We use natural gas for the production of electrical and thermal energy (steam).
Therefore we cannot rule out new increases in the event that the price of the natural gas (Psv) should rise further in the coming weeks. The cost of natural gas is now 400% higher than in the same period of 2020.
This increase was intensified by the huge increase in quota values of CO2, especially after the European Commission presented the “Fit for 55” package which aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of the power plants in production of electricity.”
